Import Partial Material From One Course To Another

These instructions are to import content from a course, this can be a single item you want to bring over or the ability to pick-and-choose content from a course. To import the entire contents of a course see our start of term procedure to copy over course content from one course to another.

To allow someone else to import content from your course without seeing student data or risk of them making changes you should manually enroll them as a Course Content Viewer in your course.

NOTE: There are two versions of this material- with and without quizzes as the question bank (where all quiz questions are stored) comes over as an all-or-nothing and can result in multiple copies of quiz questions.

I Don’t Want Any Quiz-related Content

(or I don’t want to use those Quiz Activities and the associated Question bank)

Log in to Moodle from your Staff/Faculty Clackamas.edu account.

Enter your new, empty course.

NOTE: If your course already has content and you want to start fresh, contact online@clackamas.edu with a link to your course and we can wipe the course content for you.

Locate and expand the Actions menu (gear icon) in the top-right corner of the course page.

Click the Import menu item.

Select the radio button to the left of the course you want to pull content from.

Click the Continue button when ready.

NOTE: If you do not see the desired course, you can limit your results to a term by entering the four-digit year slash two-letter term code (e.g. 2019/FA, 2018/SP, 2020/SU, 2017/WI) and clicking the Search button.

If you are still unable to find a course, it may be have been archived and can be restored upon request via our Moodle Course Cleanup Form.

On the Import settings page unselect the Include question bank item and any other general groups of things you do NOT want to bring over (such as duplicate blocks that may come over with Include blocks).

Click the Next button.

On the Include page you will be able to uncheck activities and resources you do NOT want to bring over.

If you’re only after an item or two click the None link at the top of the page and then check the individual week/topics that contain the desired activities or resources. This will allow you to then check the desired activity or resource.

NOTE: You cannot pick and choose from blocks or other parts of a course. If you want only a single block from another course you’ll need to bring over them all and then delete the unwanted ones after the fact.

Double check your choices on the Import settings page.

Click the Perform import button when ready.
