Find Course Categories & General Course Searching

Find Whole Categories of a Course Type

This will be most relevant to Administrative Assistants, Instructional Leads or those who have been assigned to help transfer content for one or more classes in a department.

Note: Assumes you are enrolled in a course or category that contains courses, most often as a Manager, Instructor, or Student.

  1. Navigate to Moodle (online.clakcamas.edu)
  2. Log in with your myClackamas credentials
  3. Locate the Staff: Manual Course Access block
  4. Click the Provisioned Courses link
  5. Click the link to the desired term
    (example: 2022/WI)
  6. Each academic code prefix has its own category. Open each link (I suggest opening each in a new tab or window)
  7. You may see some hidden courses (transparent) in each of these categories which would confirm you have at least Manager access to them and can interact as needed.
  8. Click into the desired course(s) (again, I suggest opening each in a new tab or window)
If this is not the case let us know immediately and we’ll make it so!

Search for Individual Courses you have Access to

If you have manager or instructor level access to a course you should be able to search for them even if they are currently hidden from students.

Students can also search in this way but will only see visible classes and actually access those with open enrollment, guest access, or that they are currently enrolled in themselves.

Notes:

  • You cannot search by category, only courses.
  • These steps only work for automatically created courses in Moodle, if it’s a Staging area course, manually created Meta (combined) courses, or an office hour or resource shell as it’s naming conventions may differ.

Search for Standard Moodle Courses

  1. Navigate to Moodle (online.clakcamas.edu)
  2. Log in with your myClackamas credentials
  3. Locate the Staff: Manual Course Access block
  4. Click the Manual Search for Moodle Courses link
  5. Enter your search results- there are some tips listed below this process.
  6. Hit Enter or Return on your keyboard or click the Search button to proceed to your results.
  7. You may see visible (normal looking links) and hidden (transparent or ghostly links) courses you have access to.

Some Examples of what you might Search

  • Terms are listed by year/term such as: 2017/FA, 2018/WI, 2018/SP, 2019/SU. Using a space between the year and term will show you way more than you want in most cases. Make sure you use the correct / before them.
  • Wild cards are spaces if you want to refine a search, make sure to avoid spaces unless you are POSITIVE those search items are immediately adjacent.
    Examples:
    • 2018/FA CS- will look for all courses in the 2018 term of Fall that start from the CS (computer science) dept. and maybe a few that reference CS- as a prerequisite course (mentioned in the course description) that is offered that same term (2018/FA)
    • 2018/SP G-101- will look for all sections of Geology 101 offered in 2018/SP term (and currently in Moodle)
    • 2018/SP G-101 will look for all sections of Geology 101 as well as courses that have G-101 as a listed prerequisite course (often noted in course description) offered in the 2018/SP term (and currently in Moodle)
  • Some Course names are shortened. You can look for courses based on Short Names, Long names, and the Course Description.
    • Short names appear in this format: 2018/FA CS-101-01, 2019/WI G-202-31 and so on.
This is the most specific way to search for a course if you have all these details.
    • Long names are mostly what students see and know, however some are shortened to fit better in our systems. If you’r3 looking for 2017/SU introduction to computers
You may not find what you are looking for as Introduction may be shorted to intro.
    • Course Descriptions are not always present or particularly helpful but the search function will include this in your results. Something to be mindful of if the course you seek is a prerequisite course for another course.
