The following is the suggested way to Backup your course in Moodle.
It is good practice, at the end of a term, to also create an archive of your course for your own records.
Start on the course page that you want to backup.
In the Actions menu (gear icon) block
Click on the Backup item.
The Initial Settings page will load.
Leave all the settings in their default.
Scroll to the bottom of the page.
Click the Jump to final step button.
Wait a moment for the backup process to complete.
Once it is finished, you will be taken to the Complete screen.
From the Complete screen (above), click on Continue.
You will be taken to the Import a backup file page.
Click on the Download link for the course you just backed up.
When the following dialogue appears, choose Save File.
NOTE: if you are not asked where to save the file your web browser has likely saved it to your Downloads folder
Finally, decide where you want to store the file. You will save the archive on your local computer or storage device, the “L” drive, or your department drive.
That’s it. You have created and saved an archive of your course.
