Welcome to our weekly BLOG: The Moodle Newdle. We’ll introduce you to some new Moodle features, as well as explore some of those you might have missed or forgotten.

Early access to online course content is a necessary accommodation that allows students to review materials, convert files into accessible formats (such as screen-reader-compatible documents), or manage cognitive load. This ensures equitable access to course materials and accommodates needs such as ADHD, processing delays, or visual impairments—particularly when it is necessary to:

  • Prepare alternate formats – Convert PDF or image-based materials into accessible formats for visual or cognitive access, such as braille, screen-reader‑compatible text, or audio files.
  • Reduce cognitive load – Provide time to review, organize, and process complex material in ways that support comprehension and reduce anxiety.
  • Manage time and pacing – Allow work to begin earlier or proceed at a flexible pace to remain on track despite interruptions related to health, energy, or neurodivergent thinking.
  • Familiarize with the technology – Allow time to navigate the learning platform and confirm compatibility with assistive technologies, including screen readers and text-to-speech software.

Early access to online course content is a reasonable, proactive accommodation—generally requested by the Disability Resources Center (DRC)—that supports equitable participation without altering academic standards. By granting students sufficient time to prepare, you help remove access barriers related to disability, technology, or processing differences, ensuring that all students can engage meaningfully with course materials from the start.
