Access to Course Content Early

A common Disability Services accommodation is to provide a student(s) with early access to course content. In some cases, a student may also need to work ahead due to an upcoming conflict.

To provide early access, you can either make the content visible to all students by adjusting the week/topic/section visibility, or use Restrict access to grant early access to a specific student(s) only.

From the top-right corner of the page, toggle Edit mode into the On position.

Turn Editing On button is found in the top-right corner of a Moodle page you have permission to modify content for.

Click the Edit menu (three vertical dots) to the right of the week/topic you want to allow early access to.

Select the Edit settings option.

Expand the Restrict access section.

Click the Add restriction… button.

Click the User profile button.

Enter the email address of the student you want to give early access in the textbox.

NOTE: Repeat steps 3-5 if you have more than one student who needs early access.

Click the Add restriction… button.

Click the Date button.

Set the date to the date you want the rest of the class to have access to the content.

Select the any option from the Student must match drop-down.

Click on the eye icon to hide the week/topic when the conditions are not met.

Click the Save changes button.

Click the Edit menu (three vertical dots) to the right of the week/topic when you are ready for the student(s) to have access.
