Lesson 4: Chemical Equations and Stoichiometry
You have already dealt with many chemical reactions, such the electrolysis of water. You have solved problems involving how much of one chemical will react with another, or how much of this can you get from that, and used balanced equations to help you solve those problems. You will be doing more of that in this lesson, particularly work with limiting reagent problems.
In the laboratory, you will apply the principles you have learned in the last few lessons to determine the composition of a compound, just as an early chemist might have done. You will need to think back to some of the scientific laws you learned in lessons 2 and 3; you will also be writing a lab report, so review the lab report format from lesson 2 if you need a refresher.
At the end of the lesson in your workbook, I have also included a few review questions about composition (ex. 7 a, b, c); since your lab work involves determining composition, it may be helpful to have some problems with which to review.
