Lesson 6: Periodic Table and Atomic Properties

In this lesson we will deal with the periodic table and its relationship to atomic properties. The periodic table is a table of all the elements arranged in a very useful pattern. That pattern reflects similarities between the elements.

As you become familiar with the periodic table you will learn how the atomic structure and properties of the elements are related to their position on the periodic table. You will learn about connections between atomic structure and atomic properties that will be used again and again in later lessons when we consider how the atoms of elements react with and bond to one another. You will also become familiar with terminology associated with the table itself (families, groups, periods, representative elements, etc.).
