Kaltura Media Assignment Activity (Video Submission)

The Kaltura Media Assignment activity allows students to submit a video directly to you for grading. The media can be either a pre-recorded, edited video (.mov, mp4) or an instantly-recorded video using Kaltura Express Capture or the Kaltura Capture App.

You can create a Kaltura Media Assignment much like any other Activity in Moodle.

Enter your course and turn Edit mode on.

Turn Editing On button is found in the top-right corner of a Moodle page you have permission to modify content for.

Scroll to where you want to add the Assignment activity.

Click the plus symbol to access the Add content drop-down menu.

NOTE: If you want to add between two existing activities or resources you will need to hover over the dashed line to have the Add content link appear.

Select Activity or resource option from the drop down.

Select Kaltura Media Assignment from the Activity Chooser.

NOTE: If the activity doesn’t show up in under the Starred tab, type Kaltura in the Search box at the top.

Set up the basics your Kaltura media assignment under the General section:

  • Set the Name.
  • Enter Description: Give a general explanation of the assignment.
  • Enable and set the Due date; this will show on the Timeline and Calendar.

Expand and complete the Grade, Common module settings, and Completion conditions sections as needed.

NOTE: If you do not want this activity to be graded, select None from the Type drop-down menu in the Grade section. The activity will still appear in the gradebook so you can provide feedback.

Scroll to the bottom and click the Save and return to course button.

Once your students start to submit their videos, you may grade and provide feedback to those submissions and, if enabled, encourage re-submissions.

NOTE: If you do NOT want to associate a grade value with this activity, set Grade type to None in the Kaltura Media Assignment settings. The assigment will still appear in the gradebook to allow you to provide feedback.

Enter the Kaltura Media Assignment activity.

Click the Grade submissions button.

The first 10 participants in the course will appear (unless you modified the Optional settings).

Expand Optional settings, select the Requires grading option from the Show drop-down menu.

Click on the Save preferences button.

Click the Grade or Update link under the Status column for the submission you would like to grade.

Click the Expand all link in the top-right corner to open all sections at once.
